Biology Students' Society of Slovenia
 Who are we?
Društvo študentov biologije (DŠB) or the Biology Students' Society is located in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The Society is a voluntary, independent and non-profitable association
of people interested in any kind of biology-related activity, study of
biology or problems concerning the study. The goal of the Society is to
stimulate research, study and study-connected activities of students studying
biology at Department of Biology, Biotechnical Faculty, University
of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Our projects:
Summer research camp
Situated in a different Slovenian region every year, this camp focuses on research of our country's
biodiversity. There are several workgroups, each studying its own animal group (coleoptera, odonata, reptilia, aves, mammalia, etc.), or plants. Of course there is enough time for social activities.
Biological Summer Research Camp Kolpa 2008
This year The Biology Student's Society of Slovenia is pleased to present the 20th Biological Summer Research Camp for students of biology and related natural sciences. This year's camp will take place in Stari trg close to the beautiful Kolpa river in Slovenia. See the description of the research area. The camp will last for 10 days, beginning on the 16th and ending on 26th of July. The main purpose of the camp is to provide additional education in fieldwork and laboratory techniques used in field biology and environmental studies.
Most of the researchwork at the camp will be done in the field, but there will also be a field laboratory set up for determining specially difficult taxa. However, not all of the time will be spent doing research, there will also be field trips, sport games and lectures on Slovene flora and fauna organised, as well as some free time.
You can choose to work in one of 12 different research groups at the camp. These groups are: Botanical, Dragonflies, Spiders, Butterflies, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds, Bats, Grasshoppers, Lymnologycal, Fungi, LargeMammals. Mentors of each group are Slovenian specialists in the individual field of research. See also the description of the groups.
The attendance fee is 70€ for foreign participants and 50€ for foreign participants that require a visa for Slovenia. The fee includes guided fieldwork, transportation at the camp, all equipment needed, lectures held by professors and other experts, sleeping accommodation, three meals per day, and a camp T-Shirt.
Since we will be working mainly in the field, it is recommended that you bring appropriate field clothing with you (boots, spare shirts, working trousers, etc.). Scientific field equipment will be provided. If you have any equipment of your own, feel free to bring it with you.
You are kindly invited to apply to the research camp until 20th of June by filling in the application form posted below and sending it to this e-mail address: tina.santl biologija.org. We will accept up to three participants from each country. Feel free to contact us for any additional information needed!

Spring research camp in Dalmatia
Every end of April we go to one of Croatian islands (or, in case of Pelješac, a peninsula) to study mediteranean flora & fauna. Of course the study wouldn't be complete without seeing the underwater habitat, so there is also a diving group.
Field days
Taking care of the part of biology that is often not represented enough in our study, field days are the opportunity for biology students (and other interested) to experience things they learn on the field. They are also the opportunity for those that wish to share their knowledge.
Lectures
We invite lecturers to broaden our views of certain topics. For those who haven't had enough of college lectures...
Antirepresor
Biology students' bulletin. Judging from the title one could say that it's a relaxing read. This is only half true, as there are also articles about study problematics on our university. There is also an on-line version, that can be reached here: anti.biologija.org (mostly in Slovene language).
International
We organise visits of international students' conferences, such as the International Natural Sciences Students' conference in Lithuania. Furthermore, we invite students from abroad to take part in our camps and other activities.
Web page
Besides describing our society and activities, the page you are currently reading offers news of our activities and the activities of other related societies, a collection of materials for study and links to related web pages. We also have a photo gallery and a forum. Our server hosts web pages of several other biological societies (see the Links page).
